That's what we were told in a quick little email a week before the season was to start for flag football. Andrew was pretty disappointed that he wasn't going to get to play. So Clint inquired further and was told that if he would like to coach, there would be room in the league for one more team, that there were other boys who had signed up and wanted to play.
Well, the first game, we resembled the Bad News Bears. Turned out we were playing against teams with experience, and any experience was more that what our team had. Plus we had a really small bench. So after game 1, Clint emailed the league and other coaches saying, I know it's a 9 year old league, but I have a 10 year old daughter who I am adding to my roster. None of the other coaches minded.
So, game 2- there were boys on the other team actually laughing and pointing as Lexi walked out on the field... "This is going to be easy- they have a girl on their team." Andrew turned to Dad and said, they won't be laughing after the game...
So, our little miss showboat, on the first drive of the game actually stopped midfield to look back at the boys chasing her, raise one hand in the air, then turn and run into the endzone... It was so awesome. Clint was a good coach and chastised her display of showboating, but to say the least, the Texans got some respect after that.
What's a good offense without a good defense? We had Andrew running around like a madman, trying to pull all the flags. He did awesome.
Next season, maybe we'll suit up Emmett and Olivia...
What a fun season. I must say that Clint is a fabulous coach- a great balance of fun and instruction. We had some really great boys and parents on the team.
